The Simple Fact is Self-care Is Non-negotiable

Quick hack to get the best out of yourself, your team and your organization 👇

Take care of yourself.

As an executive coach and someone who has held leadership positions at several Fortune 500 companies in my 25-year career, I believe self-care is the key to successful leadership, and here’s why:

➡️ Creating time and space for yourself to check in allows you to clear your mind and focus on what matters most (thus leading to better decision-making skills and aligning your career with your passions).

➡️ Taking care of yourself leads to a greater interest in learning, and with that comes personal and professional growth.

➡️ Prioritizing your well-being helps you navigate challenges and determine how to overcome them.

Self-care isn't just about bubble baths and spa days (although those can be great too!), but rather a well-rounded commitment to caring for our mental, physical, and emotional health. Here are some of my favorite self-care strategies you can try:

  • Journaling: Journaling forces us to reflect on our experiences mindfully, which allows us to process our emotions and gain insights into our decision-making.  If you are new to journaling, check out the 3 Minute Positivity Journal by Kristin Butler.  This was a game-changer for me!

  • Prioritizing physical health: Whether you choose a long walk outdoors with your dog or attend a Pilates class, like me, these physical activities will help boost your energy levels and clear your mind.

  • Grounding Techniques:  Grounding techniques help you refocus on the present moment and distract yourself from anxious feelings.  One of my favorite techniques to use in stressful situations is box breathing.

While these are just a few examples of self-care strategies that I have found to be effective, there are so many more for you to try, including yoga, meditation, and affirmations.
